Biography

Dr. Williamsís degrees include a Ph. D in Applied Marine Physics, University of Miami (1996); M.S. in Ocean Engineering, University of Miami (1982); and a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Cornell University (1978). He has over 30 years experience in the planning and execution of experiments in both littoral and deep ocean environments throughout the world, signal processing, computer modeling and mooring and instrument systems development. His most recent work ranges from the design and development of several types of large surface buoys and their moorings for use in measuring the atmospheric and oceanic parameters under cyclone conditions to the modification of a small coastal catamaran for near shore processes research in the North Carolina New River area. He is also working on a small acoustic noise recorder for use in passive acoustic tomography. He has held a number of positions at the University of Miami since beginning his graduate study there and is presently an Associate Scientist.
Research Interests


Design of ocean and atmospheric instrumentation systems, air-sea fluxes, underwater acoustics, cyclones, remote sensing, mooring systems, computer modeling and signal processing.
